Today was the first time that I was able to see James for more than 5 minutes since he arrived on Thursday. However I was coming off a night shift, and he was going onto nights so we were both pretty tired. We had arranged to go to Stanley with a few others who had hired a landrover, but when I got in from work at 8am and went to wake James he looked like the most tired person in the whole world. He arrived on Thursday, late, was ~forced~ into going straight to the bar, then had to work two full 12 hour day shifts on Friday and Saturday, with a night out in Stanley on Friday night in-between. I’ve made some really nice friends in the sergeants mess, that I’ve not really talked about. (I’m sure my mother would rather just read stories about penguins rather than nights out with a bunch of army guys… But anyway, they’re a really nice bunch, and I’ve managed to merge their group with the forecasters here too… ) So although I was working last night, James and the other new arrivals were taken through to meet the guys, and were inducted accordingly...
So, yes. Very tired. So we binned off Stanley as James just fancied staying local and looking around the base. After a slow morning we went to one of the little cafes for lunch, and bumped into one of the forecasters who was also going to be working the night shift with James. He had no plans either, and we were feeling suitably refreshed so the three of us decided to take a drive up to Bertha’s Beach as the weather was, as per usual, the complete opposite to the forecast - bright and sunny.
We arrived at Bertha’s and within about an hour bumped into the three who had headed off to Stanley in the morning, so that was lucky!!! James and the other forecaster had to leave after an hour or so, as they had to get back for work, but I jumped ship and stayed on the beach with the others. So James left, without seeing a penguin. :( The walk was long, and us girls did whinge a bit, but it was worth it. We got to the penguin colony, and there was lots of little tiny baby ones. Aww. Very cute!!!
Christmas soon, yay!
Oh, also we saw a ship. James made me take a photo and put it here as Oliver might like it...
