Thursday 27th December
Today was my day off, making it Reid's sleep day so we thought we would take the landrover down to Bertha's Beach, and take a walk to the other end of the beach in search of dolphins and more penguins. I love Bertha's Beach :) James was between night shifts, but after doing the shipping forecast he had decided there may be some surf and came along too. Jo would also be free after doing the morning driving, so there was a nice little group of us.
We got to the beach and the waves were huge. James tried to get in straight away, but the strong current was pushing him along at pretty much the same rate that we were walking along side him! The waves were coming in really close together and would break sporadically making paddling out look pretty hard work. He got back out and decided to walk along with us, past a little headland and into a bay.
Instead of going on our walk the rest of us stayed on the little bay, Reid and Jo sat on top a hill throwing stones at the sea, and I stayed on the beach photographing James during what looked like the most grueling surf experience I have ever seen him try to endure! There were about 5 others on the beach, and they all got the cameras out in disbelief, taking pictures of him. I can imagine the stories they would tell when they got back home...
The forecast was for persistent drizzle and rain, but the weather cleared up quite a lot, and it was actually a rather pleaseant afternoon.
I took the penguin onsie too, so me and Jo got to have some fun with that...!
Did James ruin his onesie by going into the sea with it on???
